"Azerbaijan is part of the global economy,” First Deputy Minister of Economy of Azerbaijan Elnur Aliyev said during his speech at the panel "The Climate Imperative - From Local Action to Global Action" within the framework of the opening day of the Baku Climate Action Week, APA reports.
He said that Azerbaijan’s agriculture plays an important role in the non-oil sector.
"Last year we had a drought. This was a new phenomenon on our landscape and hindered our agricultural development. We are thinking of growing crops suitable for the semi-arid landscape. 70% of floods come to us from outside. We are already facing a water shortage in the country."
He noted that another problem is related to the field of tourism:
"There are ski resorts in Azerbaijan. However, in recent years, as a result of the melting of the glaciers, we have observed a decrease in the number of tourists coming to these places."
Elnur Aliyev noted that the decreasing of the level of the Caspian Sea creates concern about the East-West corridor: "The countries on this route are forced to allocate funds for this infrastructure."
