Today, within the framework of the COP29 conference, an event titled "Troika High-level Dialogue: Our Roadmap to Mission 1.5 towards a future of shared prosperity" was held, APA reports.
The event was attended by Marina Silva, Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Brazil, which will host COP30; Adnan Amin, Chief Executive Officer of COP 28; and Yalchin Rafiyev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Lead Negotiator for COP29.
Opening the event with his introductory speech, Yalchin Rafiyev emphasized that by supporting each other in climate goals, countries can ensure a strong and effective agenda for future COPs: "Today, we will reflect on the progress we have made so far, share our thoughts on the obstacles ahead, and reaffirm our commitments once again. As we move forward in this critical decade for climate action, our aim is to foster a space for open dialogue, constructive thinking, and a shared vision."
Next, speaking about the objectives of the creation of the COP Presidencies Troika, Adnan Amin stated: "It is clear that this three-year period between COP28 and COP30 will help us meet the ambitions of the Paris Agreement and achieve the consensus we reached in Dubai. We have worked very closely together over the past year."
Thanking the government and people of Azerbaijan for the successful organization of COP29, Marina Silva, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change of Brazil, which will host COP30, emphasized that the main goal is to limit global warming to 1.5°C and strengthen global resilience:
"The scale and speed of climate actions are not aligned with the scale and speed of the threat. It is urgent that we raise our ambitions. We need more funding. In order to support us, we need access to technology and capacity building by developed countries," said Marina Silva.
The event continued with a roundtable discussion and debates on the topic. The discussions featured the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Simon Stiell, and the Minister of Environment of Rwanda, Valentine Uwamariya.
