He said that the UN decision to lift arms embargo against Syrian opposition is not correct: “We will reconsider our position in arms sale to Syria as well. There are two sides of every decision. If a party lifts embargo, other one can feel free to revise its old promises.”
Official Moscow stated that it carries out the arms sale to Syria under the old contracts. Russia stated that it can sell new weapons to the Syrian authorities as the European Union decided to lift arms embargo against Syrian opposition.
Russia said that it sold $900 million worth six S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems to Syria under contracts signed in 2010 and it led to protests in the Western countries. Russian military expert Leonid Sajin said that Russia may sell not only S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems but also the Iskander ballistic missiles. The source from "Rosoboronexport" said that the missiles have not been still sent to Syria: “We have an agreement with Syria in this regard. We have to fulfill the agreement. Reports of the western media that Syria has already received S-300 anti-aircraft missiles are false. Today, Syria has no "S-300" missile complex.”
However, Syrian President Bashar Assad said that Syria received the first shipment of long-range S-300 anti-aircraft missiles from Russia.
