Kyiv court bans Naftogaz from transiting Russian gas

Kyiv-APA. Kyiv’s economic court has decided to ban the national joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy from transiting Russian gas in 2009 at a price of $1.60 per 1,600 cubic meters per 100 kilometers, the Ukrainian Fuel and Energy Ministry has said, APA reports quoting UNIAN.
The court decided to satisfy a ministry appeal declaring ineffective agreements on Russian gas transit via Ukraine that were to run until late 2010, the ministry said in a press release on Monday.
"They were declared ineffective because the agreements were signed by the former deputy head of the Naftogaz Ukrainy board, Ihor Voronin, who was not empowered by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to do that," reads the statement.
According to the statement, the consideration of the case in full is scheduled for January 9, 2009.
On January 1, Gazprom stopped gas deliveries to Ukraine in the absence of a corresponding contract. On Sunday, Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov told Interfax that his company fulfills all orders from European consumers.
"Gazprom gives gas to the Ukrainian gas transportation system in strict compliance with the transit contract and the orders of European consumers. Lower pressure at the exit from the Ukrainian gas transportation system is linked to the fact that the Ukrainian side does not fulfill its obligations," he said.
