Moscow – APA. Russia’s Prime Minister Vladimir Putin offered to establish headquarters of Gas Exporting Countries Forum in St Petersburg, APA reports. Prime Minister put forward the proposal at the meeting of the organization informally called “Gas OPEC”. Putin promised that Russia would give diplomatic status to the organization and assume all the expenses.
“Gas OPEC” is an international organization, where the participant states seek information exchange on gas production and sale. Unlike OPEC is not a cartel determining the international price of gas. Gas Exporting Countries Forum includes Algeria, Bolivia, Brunei, Venezuela, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Qatar, Libya, Malaysia, Nigeria, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago and Equatorial Guinea. Iran offered to establish a cartel basing on the forum last year. The US and European Union objected to it. Washington and Western states consider that establishment of “Gas OPEC” may harm competition in the market and artificially increase gas price.
