Parliamentary commission investigated August events in Georgia issues final report

Tbilisi –APA. The parliamentary commission investigated the August events in Georgia completed its work and issued its final report on Thursday, APA reports. The reports confirmed that the war in South Ossetia was waged by Russia. Despite that the commission concluded that the Georgian authorities committed a number of mistakes before and during the conflict. The lawmakers consider that despite that there were intelligence reports about the Russia’s possible attack Tbilisi was not ready for the military operations. Military communication system and training of reserve forces were not in good condition and the General Staff did not prepare setback plan in the force major situations. “Civil defense issues were not organized in the necessary level. It means that there are no civil defense plans in the country or those have only formal character. The most prepared government organization was the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Protectionâ€.
The investigative commission made some advises to the government such as re-elaboration of the country’s security concept by the National Security Council, establishing the effective civil defense system, installation of modern communication system at the Defense Ministry, elimination of problems of the Air Defense System and making regular reports to the parliament about it and conducting of monitoring on fulfilling of these advises by the parliament. The investigative commission heard testimony of all government officials, including President Saakashvili.
