Russia tackles Holodomor issue at the UN General Assembly

According to APA, Russian ambassador to UN Vitaliy Churkin said despite that Ukraine tried to achieve adoption of UN resolution on this issue for many times, its efforts were prevented every time. “The Ukraine’s campaign failed. We prevented this issue not to be included on agenda of 62nd and 63rd sessions of the UN General Assembly. They understood that they will never achieve adoption of this resolution. Ukraine lost its hopes and spread only statement on Holodomor among the UN member countries, but few of them signed this document. Only 32 countries accepted this statement. We have very strained relations with the UN diplomats. We consider the famine disaster in USSR in 1930s a tragedy of many peoples, but the government of Ukraine evaluates it as genocide against the Ukrainian people and politicizes the issue. We see this step as sowing of enmity between the countries and efforts to discord the Russian and Ukrainian peoplesâ€.
