Leader of the Imedi (Hope) opposition political Party Irina Sarishvili was released after hours-long interrogation last night, APA’s Georgia bureau reports.
She was detained yesterday evening by officers of the Georgian Interior Ministry in Georgian Sadakhlo border check-point (Georgian-Armenian border) for the import of great amount of undeclared gold and cash from Armenia into Georgia. Sarishvili told reporters that the gold belonged to the taxi driver and some of money to the persons accompanying her. During the customs clearance procedures $58,890, 7,200 roubles, 8,000 Armenian drams, 26 Turkish lira and 300qr gold was found.
According to the legislation, every citizens can take $ 17 000 with himself when passing borders.
Irina Sarishvili is chief of the Igor Georgadze Foundation. At present, internationally wanted Igor Georgadze lives in Russian territory. /APA/
