Ukrainian president to announce results of gas talks with Russia

Baku-APA. Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych pledged on Tuesday to announce the results of talks on revising gas contracts with his Russian counterpart Dmytry Medvedev in the near future, APA reports.

"The work we have done in recent years was aimed at creating a traditional environment that has always existed between our two countries," Yanukovych said at a joint press conference with Medvedev in the countryâ€™s eastern city of Donetsk.

"It would meet the national interests of both states. We came close to this and I believe we will dot our iâ€™s and cross our tâ€™s as soon as possible," he added.

The president said the two countriesâ€™ cooperation in the gas sphere should not cause concerns in its European partners, as gas supplies to Europe would not be suspended.

Medvedev also expressed his solidarity that "each country should properly and accurately perform their contracts."

Russiaâ€™s gas giant Gaprom signed long-term gas delivery and transit contracts with Ukraineâ€™s Naftogaz in 2009. However, the two sides have not reached consensus on the issue so far as the Ukrainian government has long urged Russia to review the existing gas pricing formula.
