Baku-APA. About three-quarters of the Georgian public are in favor of their country joining the European Union (EU) and NATO, showed an opinion poll released Monday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

According to the survey, conducted last month by U.S. pollsters, 76 percent of those surveyed back the government’s goal to join the EU while 74 percent stand behind the country’s effort to join NATO.

The results of the poll were made public by the Caucasus Resource Research Centers.

Georgia’s enthusiasm for the EU and NATO memberships was also on display Friday when French President Nicolas Sarkozy drew loud applause when he asserted during a speech in Tbilisi that he and France support Georgia’s aspirations to join the two blocs.
