Senior U.S. diplomats to visit Russia on human rights issues

Baku-APA. Two senior U.S. diplomats will visit Russia next week for talks on human rights issues, State Department said in a statement on Friday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor Michael Posner and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Thomas Melia will travel to Moscow, Nizhniy Novgorod, and Kazan, Russia from October 10th to 15th to discuss a wide range of human rights and democracy issues," said the statement.

The statement said during their visit, Posner and Melia will engage with Russia’s senior government officials, journalists, students, and representatives of religious minority and civil society groups.

"Topics for discussion will include internet freedom and religious freedom, as well as elections, tolerance, and conditions for civil society," said the statement.
