Medvedev, Obama discuss Libya situation on phone

Baku-APA. Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and U.S. President Barack Obama held a telephone conversation over Libya situation on Thursday at the request of the Russian side, the Kremlin press service said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Among the issues of the international agenda, particular focus was made on the situation in Libya, the Kremlin said.

"The Russian president emphasized the need to prevent casualties among civilians and the priority to achieve the goals set in the UN Security Council resolution 1973," the Kremlin statement said.

The two leaders also discussed the results of recent bilateral meetings and Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organization ( WTO), the statement said.

Earlier on Thursday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich reiterated that Moscow hopes the multinational military forces should comply with international law while conducting military operation against Libya.

Civilian casualties in Libya have captured much international attention. Reports said at least 64 Libyans had been killed and 150 others wounded by the missiles and bombs fired by the foreign forces over the weekend.
