Baku – APA. The leaders of Russia and Turkey have pledged to go ahead with construction of a nuclear power plant in Turkey, despite Japan’s ongoing nuclear crisis, APA reports quoting “The Voice of Americaâ€.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Reccep Erdogan met Wednesday in Moscow. Mr. Medvedev told reporters afterward that the plant will be able to survive any earthquake.
Their comments come as Japan faces a possible meltdown at its Fukishima plant after being damaged in a massive earthquake and resulting tsunami Friday.
Russia and Turkey agreed last May to cooperate on the plant.
Also during their meeting Wednesday, Mr. Medvedev and Mr. Erdogan signed agreements on mutual visa-free travel and on a cooperation protocol between Turkish and Russian state-run radio and television.
