Tbilisi. Nizami Mammadzadeh – APA. European Union’s Special Representative for the South Caucasus Peter Semneby considers that Georgia-Russia relations can be normalized only through dialogue and it is high time to start the dialogue. APA’s Georgia bureau reports that Peter Semneby said it at the briefing in Tbilisi.

“Dialogue is the only way to achieve lasting stability in the region. Georgian President’s efforts to start talks with the Russian administration should be welcomed,” he said.

Special Representative noted that the European Union could offer any kind of assistance to Georgia. He also commented on the talks with Sukhumi and Tskhinvali separatist regimes concerning the solution of the conflicts in Georgia.
“Georgians and Abkhazians, Georgians and Ossetians should solve all the problems themselves. There is simply no other way,” he said.

According to Semneby, the parties should compromise in order to ensure peace and stability in the region.
“It is impossible to achieve the desired results without compromise. The European Union can contribute to these processes and bring the parties closer,” he said.

Peter Semneby’s mandate will expire on February 28.
