Baku. Ayaz Abdulla – APA. Prime Minister Vlad Filat has had a working luncheon with Richard Morningstar, the special envoy of the US secretary of state for Eurasian energy, and Jonathan Elkind, the deputy assistant secretary for policy and international energy at the US Department of Energy, according to the government’s press service, APA reports quoting “Moldpres”.
Filat thanked the USA for its valuable assistance for democratic and economic reforms and specified that he highly appreciates the US Government’s support during the period of transition to viable administration.
Filat informed the US officials about the situation in the energy sector in Moldova and about measures undertaken to ensure energy security.
"Energy cooperation is one of our priorities in the dialogue with foreign partners. Presently, Moldova depends on Russian gas. To overcome this situation, we are to look for alternative solutions," Filat said.
The prime minister spoke in favour of intensifying trade exchanges, increasing US investments and resuming the work of the Moldovan-US committee for economic and investment cooperation. The body was set up in 2003 and its last meeting took place in 2005.
Richard Morningstar and Jonathan Elkind expressed willingness to back Moldova in priority sectors, adding that the USA is willing to provide Moldova with consultative assistance in the sector of energy security.
