Baku – APA. Well-known Russian economist and politician Yegor Gaidar dies at the age of 54, APA reports quoting RIA-Novosty. Gaidar’s aide Gennady Volkov said he died as a result of thrombotic break off.

Gaidar was born in 1956. He graduated from the School of Economics of the Moscow State University. He became PhD in 1980 and doctor of economics in 1990. Gaidar was one of the champions of economic reforms in Russia. He took important posts in the Russian government in 1990s. He was first minister of finance of independent Russia and then he worked at first deputy prime minister and acting prime minister. He led the privatization process in Russia. He left the government and led Democratic Choice of Russia in 1994-2001. Then he joined the Union of Right-Wing Forces in 2001-2003.
