Baku – APA. Leader of the Moldovan Communist Party Vladimir Voronin resigned from the post of the president of Moldova. According to the Moldovan Constitution Voronin, who took the president’s post for two terms, couldn’t run for the presidency for third term. Voronin was an acting president after the parliamentary elections held in April until the election of new president by the newly-formed parliament. The previous parliament was dissolved when it failed to elect the president and Voronin should leave the presidency to save his mandate at the newly-formed parliament. Now chairman of the parliament, leader of the Liberal Party Mikhai Gimpu will fulfill presidential authorities. Four opposition parties won the seats in the parliament after the last elections and established coalition, which has 53 mandates in 101-seat parliament. It is not enough for the election of new president because they need to have 61 votes for that. If the president is not elected in double voting, the parliament will be dissolved again.
