Georgian human rights commissioner calls new Defense Minister criminal

Tbilisi – APA. Georgian human rights commissioner Sozar Subari called the newly-appointed Defense Minister Bacho Akhalaia a criminal, APA reports. The human rights commissioner called Akhalaia the man violating and ignoring the law.
“There are enough facts to bring charges against the new Defense Minister. With the appointment of Akhalaia the army may be used for political purposes and against the opposition,” he said.
Defense Minister David Sikharulidze resigned yesterday and Georgian President appointed Bacho Akhalaia to this post. David Sikharulidze had been chief of the department controlling the execution of court decisions by 2008, later he was appointed Deputy Defense Minister.
Sozar Subari repeatedly accused Georgian authorities of violating human rights.
