Baku -APA. Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri fired Economic Development Minister Lasha Zhvania on Friday, accusing him of failing to address key problems in the ex-Soviet republic’s recession-hit economy.
"I am not happy with the work of the economy minister and I want to say that he will have to quit his post," Gilauri said in a televised briefing. "I’ve already spoken with him and with the president."
“The economic development ministry did not do enough to attract investment and even to create the conditions for current investors,” he said.

The first quarter of this year saw a 76.8 percent drop in FDI to $124.7 million compared with the same period last year, with the banking sector hardest hit.

Zhvania rejected the accusations and insisted that he had resigned over disagreements with the prime minister.
"I agreed with the prime minister that we cannot continue working together," he said in a televised press conference.
Lasha Zhvania has been Georgia’s economic development minister since December 10, 2008.
