Accident at Russian hydroelectric plant killed 12, injured 66

Baku – APA. Death toll in the accident at the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric plant in Khakassia Republic, Russian Federation reached 12, APA reports. Russian Emergency Situations Minister Sergei Shoigu said 12 bodies had been found. 11 more people were injured. The minister said 66 people remained unaccounted for. Brigades of the Emergency Situations Ministry continue search on the site. 1200 have been involved in the rescue operations.
The accident occurred when the third and fourth water conduits at Russia’s largest Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric station broke, damaging a wall and flooding the engine room.
Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric plant is the strongest hydroelectric plant of Russia. Its installed capacity is 6.7 gigawatts. The restoration of the hydroelectric plant will take several months.
