New ombudsman elected in Georgia

Tbilisi. Nizami Mammadzadeh – APA. Georgian parliament elected new ombudsman for a five-year term on July 31, APA’s Georgia bureau reports. Giorgi Tugushi, who was nominated by the parliamentary majority, became new ombudsman of Georgia. His rival Dimitri Lortkipanidze could gain only 14 votes. 88 voted for Giorgi Tugushi.
There were 9 parliamentarians from opposition during the voting. 5 from the parliamentary majority voted for Dimitri Lortkipanidze. As it was secret voting, their names are not known.
Chairman of the parliament David Bakradze wished success to the new ombudsman.
The tenure of the incumbent Georgian ombudsman will expire on September 16.
