Turkey shoots down Russian jet for airspace violation near Syrian border - <span style="color: red;">UPDATED

The Russian Defense Ministry and Turkish Presidency, quoted in Russian and Turkish media reports, have both described the plane as Russian, and video posted by the Haberturk TV station appeared to show the jet coming down in flames.

 

Turkish F-16's shot down a Russian SU-24 jet on Nov. 24 near the Syrian border after it violated Turkish airspace, presidential sources said. The pilots managed to eject from the downed jet, the ministry said, adding their fate is as yet unknown.

 

On October 16, Turkish warplanes shot down an unidentified drone of Russian origin in Turkish air space near Syria.

Baku – APA. Turkish F-16 fighter jets shot down a warplane of unknown origin on Tuesday after it violated Turkish air space close to the Syrian border, according to Turkish reports.

 

No further details were immediately available. Two pilots were seen landing with the aid of parachutes, the witnesses said.

 

A warplane crashed in Syria near the Turkish border on Tuesday, but it was not clear to which country the plane belonged, Turkish private broadcaster Haberturk TV reported.

 

The Syrian army with the help of Russian military aircraft has recently launched a military operation in the Turkmen Mountain against the local armed groups.
