Baku – APA. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin regarded as false the statements on the military intervention in Syria made by US Secretary of State John Kerry at the Senate’s debates, APA reports. Putin said that asked whether al-Qaeda terrorists are in the conflicting zone John Kerry said that there are no representatives of this organization in Syria.
“He is telling a lie and he knows that this is a lie. Al-Nusra Front is functioning in Syria and it is a unit of al-Qaeda."
The Washington Post has published the transcript of the debates hosted by the Senate, it reveals that Kerry didn’t deny the presence of Al-Nusra Front in Syria.
Vladimir Putin considers that the Congress has no right to sanction the use of force against Syria. According to Russian President, only the UN Security Council can take this step. He said any decision beyond the will of the Security Council will be assessed as an act of aggression.
"I think the statements on the use of chemical weapons by the Syrian government are groundless. Such steps are taken when there is no way out. The authorities in Syria are controlling the situation. Therefore, the use of chemical weapons would be an illogical step," he said.
