Turkey, Somalia vow to strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism

Baku-APA. The Turkish and Somali governments on Thursday pledged here to strengthen counter-terrorism cooperation after attacks took place in Somalia targeting Turkish buildings and citizens, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bekir Bozdag told reporters that Turkey and Somalia will put forward strong cooperation to prevent terrorist groups from attacking workers at the Turkish embassy and Turkish NGOs after meeting with visiting Somali Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon.

In addition, Bozdag said he discussed with Shirdon how to deepen bilateral relations between Turkey and Somalia, adding that Turkey will open a university in the African country.

For his part, Shirdon conveyed his condolences for the July 27 terrorist attack on the Turkish embassy in Mogadishu, where one guard was killed. He urged an increase in bilateral ties in economy, health, education, security and other areas.

Shirdon will also hold talks with Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara.
