The attack began at around 04:30 a.m. local time Monday when Taliban seized a five-story under-construction building in Qasaba locality, after which they launched rocket propelled grenade (RPG) attacks on the airport and the nearby US and Afghan army military compound.
"The clash ended at around 09:00 Monday as two attackers exploded their explosive jackets and five other militants were gunned down by security forces," the police statement said, adding no security members or civilian were harmed in the attack. All commercial flights from the adjoining civilian airport were suspended.
