Baku-APA. Russian air force on Monday destroyed 25 positions of jihadi groups in the countryside of Syria's coastal city of Latakia, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
"Russian air force in cooperation with Syria destroyed 25 fortified positions and command stations of the terrorists in the vicinity of the town of Salma in Latakia," SANA said, citing a military source.
In an earlier report of SANA, the Syrian Military General Command said the Syrian army advanced on several fronts against armed militant groups, just days after starting a large-scale offensive against rebel-held areas across the country.
The army recaptured several strategic towns and hills, most importantly the southeastern outskirts of the town of Salmah, which has for long been under the rebels' control, according to the report.
Russian warplanes started airstrikes against rebel positions in several Syrian areas late last month, marking the first Russian military involvement in the war on terror in Syria.
