Basku-APA. Pakistan on Friday condemned the terrorist attack on the convoy of presidential candidate Dr. Abdullah Abdullah in Kabul, which killed several people, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Afghan Interior Ministry says six people were killed and 22 others wounded when a suicide attacker in a car targeted presidential runner Dr. Abdullah's convoy in Kabul shortly after he addressed an election gathering.

Officials say some of Abdullah's guards were killed and injured in the twin blasts.

"Pakistan condemns the terrorist attack on the convoy of presidential candidate Dr. Abdullah in Kabul today, in which several innocent lives were lost and many were injured. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families," the Foreign Ministry said.

"We are confident that the people of Afghanistan would defeat any attempt aimed at thwarting their democratic journey and their quest for peace and progress," the Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Tasnim Aslam, said.

She said in a statement that Pakistan, for its part, will continue to support all efforts for peaceful elections and democratic transition in Afghanistan.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack on Abdullah just a week ahead of the presidential election runoff.

Taliban had threatened attacks on all election-related people during the runoff slated for June 14.
