APA reports quoting Radiofarda that Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has been elected for the third time at the meeting held by the members of Tehran Islamic City Municipal Council on September 8. The voting took part in two stages. Ghalibaf attracted 16 votes of the 31 votes cast by city councillors, which gave him victory over Mohsen Hashemi, the former head of the Tehran Subway System.

51-year old Ghalibaf took part in the presidential election from Coalition “Justice and Development” and “2+1”. Ghalibaf was the second with 6,077,292 (16.55%) of the votes. Though, Ghalibaf was a candidate in the Iranian presidential election of 2005, he couldn’t get enough votes. He studied at the faculty Political Geography at Tehran University and was the former commanders of General Rezaie (head of the AGIR/IRGC) and AFAGIR (Air Force of the Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution). On 17 September 2005, he was elected as Mayor. In 2007 he was reelected as Mayor for a 4-year term.
