Militants seize Turkish Consulate in Irag’s Mosul - UPDATED

Baku – APA. Militants of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) have seized the Turkish Consulate in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul and taken 48 persons hostage.

APA reports quoting Turkish news agencies that 2 of hostages are children, 3 women, 14-15 employees of consulate and others special forces guarding consulate. All of them have been taken to unknown direction. ISIL itself confirmed the accident on taking hostage.


Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan held an emergency meeting with the Head Of Turkish Intelligence Agency and several ministers. The meeting was also attended by chief of Operation Department of the Turkish Armed Forces Headquarters. This fact indicates that Turkish leadership plans to carry out operation against ISIL.

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmad Davudoglu, who is in the US, was informed about the accident and decided to return to Turkey postponing visit to NewYork.

Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan held an emergency meeting with the Undersecretary of Turkey's National Intelligence Agency (MIT) and Deputy Prime Minister Besir Atalay to discuss the developments.
