Baku-APA. Israeli army tanks on the border with the Gaza Strip and Israel on Monday fired several artillery shells into the northern area of the Palestinian coastal enclave, witnesses said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
Residents of the northern Gaza Strip town of Beit Hanoon said they heard intensive gunfire and saw flares in the air and Israeli armored vehicles patrolling the area.
Media reports said that the artillery shells wounded several people in the area, while Palestinian rescue teams and ambulances have not yet confirmed any casualties.
Meanwhile, Israeli Radio reported that the Israeli army stationed in northern Gaza Strip noticed two armed men approaching the border fence and trying to plant an explosive device.
The Radio, quoting an Israeli army source, said that the soldiers opened fire at the two men after they crossed the fence, adding that one of them was injured and arrested and the other managed to escape.
