Tehran. Suleyman Farzaliyev – APA. Parties in Iran’s conservative and reformist camps have so far received roughly equal number of votes, APA’s Iran bureau reported.
Nearly 55 million of Iran's 80 million people were eligible to vote. Participation figures were not immediately available, though Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli predicted late Thursday there would be a turnout of 70 percent.
In some constituencies the length of voting was extended four times due to population density.
Officials in several Iranian metropolises including the capital city of Tehran have announced those schools that hosted the ballot boxes in Friday elections are close on Saturday due to the continued vote counting process.
According Iran’s Interior Ministry, there were provocative attempts to undermine the voting process but overall security was well ensured.
Although the counting process is still underway in Tehran, in most of the major cities the second round of election will be held.
According to the results of the election for the Assembly of Experts in Tehran, current President Hassan Rouhani and Influential former president Ayatollah Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani are atop.
The results of the elections in Tehran are expected to be announced tomorrow.
