German FM urges Iran to work towards peace in Syria

Baku. Malahat Najafova – APA. German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has called on Iran to use its influence to contribute to political transition in Syria.

“I would like to see Iran using its influence to bring the Syrian government to the negotiating table, in order to discuss the beginning of the political transition process," he told reporters in Iran, where he will participate in the meeting of the Munich Security Conference, APA reported citing RIA Novosti.

Germany and Iran must have a joint interest to "stop the bloodshed," in Syria, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier told "Iran," the newspaper close to the Tehran government.

The German FM has met with his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif in Tehran to discuss the fight against terrorism and the protection of human rights.
Mohammad Javad Zarif said the discussions have resulted in significant advancements in a number of issues.
