Baku-APA. Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan, who once dismissed Twitter as a major scourge and a social menace that creates polarization and socio-political problems, has said that using the social platform is a must for Turkish youth to spread truth, APA reports quoting Todays Zaman.
ErdoÄŸan called Twitter a major a menace during the Gezi protests since protesters were extensively using the social media network to mobilize and organize. Twitter also served as a source of information and way to obtain news in the face of a media blackout; the protests and gatherings were largely ignored by conventional media at the start.
ErdoÄŸan accused the social media platform of fomenting recent riots, which he also blamed on “market speculators.”
“There is a curse and it is called Twitter. Here [on this site] are the best of lies and exaggerations,” he said of the social media platform during the Gezi protests.
But he seems to have adopted a new approach and now says using Twitter for Turkish youth is a must and they should take on a mission to spread truth instead of lies and disinformation.
