The incident occurred on Thursday when a parked car laden with explosives detonated in the al-Arman neighborhood of Homs, official SANA news agency reported.

Most of the people injured in the blast are women and children, the report cited an unnamed security source as saying.

The official said the terrorist attack also caused great material damage to a number of houses, cars and shops.

Homs has been frequently hit by bomb attacks since the start of foreign-backed militancy which has gripped the country over the past three years.

Meanwhile, Syrian soldiers confiscated a vehicle carrying Turkish medicine and locally-made missiles near the western city.

Army forces reportedly ambushed the car carrying the cargo as it was heading from Kafr Zeita in Hama countryside to a militant stronghold in al-Rastan, in Homs countryside.

Damascus blames Ankara for helping militants launch attacks on the Arab country from the Turkish territories.

Ankara, along with Qatar and Saudi Arabia, has been one of the major supporters of militants fighting against the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Syria has been experiencing deadly violence since 2011. Some sources say over 140,000 people have been killed and millions displaced due to the violence fueled by foreign-backed militants.
