The city of Lishui in the eastern province of Zhejiang says on its official microblog that the landslide struck a village within the city’s jurisdiction late Friday night, burying nearly 20 homes.
As of Saturday morning, rescuers found four bodies and brought one injured survivor to a hospital, the official Xinhua News Agency said. Rescuers were searching for 33 people still missing, Xinhua said.
Phone calls to Lishui government and propaganda offices, and the local township government, rang unanswered.
The Lishui area had heavy rains over the past two days.
