The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan has issued a statement regarding reports circulating in the media about restrictions on travel to the United States for citizens of this country, APA reports
The ministry has clarified that such news has caused confusion and concern.
The official statement also notes that Turkmenistan is a neutral state, a status officially recognized three times by the UN General Assembly, and strictly adheres to norms and regulations in the field of migration:
“In this context, Turkmenistan's compliance with the UN conventions on the legal, social, and humanitarian norms concerning refugees and persons without citizenship is exemplary worldwide. This has been repeatedly highlighted in forums held under the auspices of the UN and other reputable international organizations. At the same time, Turkmenistan addresses issues related to the entry and exit of citizens within the framework of bilateral agreements and cooperation, ensuring mutual consideration of the legislation of interested parties.”
The document also outlines cases where restrictions on entry and exit may be applied to certain individuals:
“The Turkmen side firmly believes that such restrictive measures are implemented only in cases where a foreign national has committed serious legal violations. It is particularly noteworthy that citizens of Turkmenistan traveling to the United States are distinguished by their high level of compliance with legal requirements. Taking the above into account, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan declares that the adopted decision is a hasty step that fails to consider the broad scope of Turkmenistan-U.S. cooperation and its positive outcomes, as well as the favorable indicators of the development of bilateral relations.”
Note that U.S. President Donald Trump has signed an executive order banning citizens of 12 countries from entering the United States.
According to the document published on the official website of the White House, a full entry ban applies to citizens of Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.
Additionally, certain restrictions will be imposed on citizens of Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.
