Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan shared a number of his views on the settlement proccess of the Russia-Ukraine conflict during his visit to Ukraine, APA reports, citing Anadolu Agency.
According to the report, he revealed that he would meet with a number of officials, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
Hakan Fidan said that, as in Russia, his country's position on the importance of the ceasefire will be brought to the attention of official Kyiv:
"Both sides really want a ceasefire. But their demands for this are different. There is a need to reconcile those demands. And this requires negotiations and mediation. I believe that the new perspectives offered by the mediating parties, including our country, play an important role in this process. All countries responsible for the settlement process must take certain steps and shoulder the burden. Currently, we are performing many functions that can be considered mediation. However, progress cannot be achieved with only one mediator."
Hakan Fidan also touched upon the participation of the United States in this process. The Turkish minister stated that in the current situation, it is necessary for Russia to take the same step:
"Donald Trump has demonstrated determination from the beginning of the process, and the United States and Europe have demonstrated stability in the issue of harmonizing positions with official Washington. If Russia cannot continue the settlement process, it will find itself in an undesirable position in the eyes of the United States. We are in contact with the Russians, Ukrainians and Europeans. They are contacting us, asking us something and trying to find out things. Because what is happening is in the interest of all three."
