The foreign ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia met in Beijing on Thursday, paving the way for normalised ties under a surprise China-brokered deal, APA reports citing Teletrader.
Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian signed an agreement on Thursday that will allow flights between the two countries to resume and enable issuing visas to citizens.
According to the joint statement, the China-brokered agreement also includes arrangements for the reopening of the two embassies and consulates as well as the resumption of visits by officials and private sector delegations.
In a joint statement, Iran and Saudi Arabia also emphasized the need to respect each other’s national sovereignty and abstain from interfering in each other’s internal affairs.
