"Situation in Afghanistan is very serious and unexpected," said NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg at a press conference, APA reports.

"Kabul has surrendered and most part of the country has fallen under control of Taliban. Occurrences in Afghanistan deeply saddens me. Currently, NATO has focused on the safe departure of personnel of member and partner countries and Afghans, who were cooperating with us for years, from Afghanistan," noted NATO Secretary-General.

According to him, NATO has mobilized all of its efforts for the implementation of flights from Kabul International Airport: "NATO's about 800 civilian personnel is in Afganistan in dangerous conditions and environment for conduction of necessary operations,

I also express gratitude to military personnel of NATO partners. Especially, Turkey, the US, Great Britain play main role in ensuring security of the Airport," stressed Stoltenberg.
