A police officer was killed in an armed incident during an identity check in Ankara’s Pursaklar district, APA reports.
According to the information, police officers stopped a vehicle during an operation. While they were checking the identities of the occupants, a suspect sitting in the back seat got out of the vehicle and fired twice at police officer Ahmet Türkoğlu.
Police and emergency medical teams were dispatched to the scene. Türkoğlu, who was seriously wounded, was taken to Pursaklar State Hospital, where he died despite doctors’ efforts to save his life.
Ankara Governor Yakup Canbolat said the incident occurred at around 11:25 p.m. at a checkpoint on the Karacaören-TOKİ road.
According to him, three people were in the vehicle. Two of them were detained following the attack, while the suspect who opened fire shot himself immediately after the incident.
The suspect was reported to be in critical condition.
