"President Donald Trump may find a solution to the sanctions imposed on Türkiye by the United States over the purchase of S-400 systems from Russia," said Türkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in an interview with Reuters, APA reports.
The minister stated that the sanctions imposed by the United States on Türkiye due to this issue are a historical anomaly and need to be corrected.
Fidan said he was also hopeful that Trump's "problem-solving techniques" and his new administration would be able to find a solution for the lifting of U.S. sanctions on Türkiye's defence industry over its acquisition of Russian S-400 defence systems in 2019.
Hakan Fidan emphasized that the policy change that Trump could implement might be an opportunity for Europe, which has been dependent on the United States since the Cold War.
