A total of 62 Afghan couples were married at a mass wedding ceremony in north Afghanistan's Baghlan province, the state-run Bakhtar news agency reported Friday, APA reports citing Xinhua.
According to the report, a local charity foundation organized the event, providing each newlywed with items such as a carpet and household appliances to begin their married life.
In areas stricken by severe poverty in the country, marriage becomes an expensive affair that usually entails substantial dowries, costly gifts, and lavish celebrations.
Earlier, 240 couples married at a mass wedding event in western Afghanistan's Herat province.
