Two children were killed and one person was seriously injured after lightning struck a tree in the yard of a primary school in the Ergani district of Türkiye’s Diyarbakir province, Habertürk reported.
The incident occurred in the morning.
According to reports, lightning struck a tree located in the school yard. At that moment, 13-year-old Serkan Yıldırım, 14-year-old Kasım Yıldırım and another child who were under the tree were injured. Emergency medical teams dispatched to the scene transported the injured to hospital.
Despite doctors’ efforts, Serkan Yıldırım and Kasım Yıldırım died. It was reported that the condition of the other injured child, who is receiving treatment at Diyarbakir Gazi Yaşargil Training and Research Hospital, remains serious.
It was noted that the children who lost their lives were cousins. An investigation into the incident is underway.
