Sources told LBCI that Lebanese President Joseph Aoun held a phone call with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, during which he informed him that he would not speak with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, LBCI reports.
Aoun thanked Washington for its efforts to reach a ceasefire and for its support at all levels.
For his part, Rubio affirmed that he would continue ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire as a step toward restoring peace, security and stability in Lebanon, expressing his support and appreciation for Aoun’s positions.
Hiba Nasr, the Washington Bureau Chief for Asharq News, stated that the call was positive, adding that Rubio informed Aoun that arrangements are underway for a follow-up call at a later stage between the Lebanese president and the U.S. president.
