Lebanese President Joseph Aoun agreed on steps to implement the peace agreement with Israel at a meeting in Washington with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. This was reported in a statement by the President's Office.
"President Aoun thanked the United States for facilitating progress in the negotiations and emphasized that the framework agreement signed on June 26 aims to end the conflict with Israel," the text notes.
As Aoun emphasized, the implementation of the agreements reached will begin with the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the area in southern Lebanon, where the first "pilot zone" will be created under the control of the Lebanese military.
The statement indicated that the President of the Republic asked the US Secretary of State "to strengthen support for the Lebanese army and security forces, as well as to facilitate the influx of American investment into various sectors of the economy, especially in energy, telecommunications and transportation."
