Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Monday highlighted the importance of Syria's presence in the Arab League, underscoring that the decision to reinstate Damascus into the organization had "positive impact" on the developments in the Middle East and North Africa, APA reports citing Teletrader.
The Russian foreign minister and his Syrian counterpart Faisal Mikdad "exchanged views on topical issues on the regional agenda" during the telephone conversation. At the same time, Mikdad expressed Syria's support for the Russian military operation in Ukraine.
Previously, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said that Damascus recognized the new Russian borders after the annexation of four Ukrainian regions.
