"We have not been able to confirm a successful landing on the lunar surface," Japanese company ispace Inc.'s CEO Takeshi Hakamada was quoted by CNBC as saying on Tuesday, APA reports.

Nonetheless, Hakamada shared that ispace is still "very proud of the fact that we have achieved many things during this Mission 1" and will continue the lunar quest.

The HAKUTO-R M1, a series 1 lander, was supposed to arrive at the Atlas Crater at 12:40 pm ET. However, the company said that it lost communication at "the very end" and for that reason is assuming that the landing at the lunar surface could not be completed.
