At least eight people died and nearly a dozen others were injured when the vehicle they were traveling in fell off the road in India's western state of Rajasthan, the local police confirmed on Saturday, Xinhua reports.
The road accident was reported from Rajasthan's Kota area on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway. Hailing from the central state of Madhya Pradesh, the victims were going to offer prayers at a temple situated in the state's Sikar district when they met with the accident.
According to the police, the driver apparently fell asleep as the vehicle veered off the road and fell into a 15-foot-deep ditch along the road. The dead bodies had been recovered, and those injured were admitted to a local hospital.
The death toll was feared to rise since some of the injured were said to be in a critical condition. There were nearly 21 people in the ill-fated vehicle, said the police.
