China is "convinced that BRICS is an open and inclusive mechanism," the country's foreign ministry told RIA Novosti on Monday, reiterating that Beijing would welcome more "like-minded partners" into the "big family," APA reports.
The group is "committed to protecting multilateralism, actively promoting reform of global governance and increasing the representation and voting power of the emerging market and developing countries," the Chinese Foreign Ministry added.
"If we expand BRICS to account for a similar portion of world GDP as the G7, then our collective voice in the world will grow stronger," an unnamed Chinese official separately told the Financial Times.
