Çavuşoğlu: History cannot be rewritten with political statements

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu replied to US President Joe Biden's statement about the events of 1915, APA reports citing TRT Haber.

In his response, Çavuşoğlu expressed his opinion that "Political charlatans are back on stage."

"History cannot be rewritten with political statements. Opportunists who persist in this relationship will be remembered for their ulterior motives and hypocrisy. Teaching the Turkish people a history lesson is not for anyone," he said.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye, it was emphasized that the regrettable statements about the events of 1915, which do not correspond to reality and international law, are futile attempts to rewrite history with political motives: "No one should forget that the events of 1915 cannot be determined by politicians' own agendas.. Such an approach can only lead to falsification of history. Those who persist in maintaining this biased position will go down in history as cheap political opportunists. We reject these statements, which are invalid for us, and we condemn those who insist."

In the statement, it is fundamentally stated that no one and no organization can teach Türkiye a lesson from its history: "We call on these circles that serve narrow-minded political goals and try to extract enmity from history to correct these grave mistakes."
